Vitamin D Sleep Apnea Gut Health And Diabetes
A consequence of our poor diets is we have crowded teeth and smaller airways. You might be surprised to hear it wasnt always that way our ancestors had straight teeth, robust jaws, and never brushed or flossed. As a result 22 million Americans suffer from sleep apnea.
I bring this up because sleep apnea increases a persons risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Also, sleep-disordered breathing is also related to proper nutrition throughout life. And perhaps most importantly, the first line of defense in catching sleep-disordered breathing in patients early, are dentists. This is another area where dentists must get involved if we want to tackle the issue of pervasive type 2 diabetes with any success.
Dentists can tell early on if children are getting the right nutrition and ensure their airway remains open so they can benefit from quality sleep for the rest of their life. This is essential to preventing not only diabetes, but heart disease, cognitive decline, and more.
Sleep apnea is also linked to vitamin D deficiency and gut microbiome changes. So by addressing these three factors in type 2 diabetes, we provide the foundation to cure type 2 diabetes.

Success Story: Reversing Diabetes With A Plant
Growing up, Marc Ramirez thought that diabetes was inevitable. As a young adult, his mother and six of his siblings battled type 2 diabetes and suffered through side effects, including kidney and pancreas transplants, amputations, and dialysis. Eventually, Marc was diagnosed, too. He tried to improve his health by lowering his carb intake and exercising, but he soon found himself on daily insulin injections and four other medications. Frustrated and feeling hopeless, he asked his doctor if he would ever live a life without daily medications. When his doctor said, no, Marc decided to take his health into his own hands.
After hearing about the health benefits of a plant-based diet, he and his wife decided to give it a try. His new diet followed just a few simple rules: He would avoid animal products and keep it low in fat. Otherwise, he could eat as much as he wanted, without counting carbs or calories. Marcs daily menu included foods like oatmeal with fruit, pasta primavera piled high with vegetables, and spicy black bean burritos. Under his doctors supervision, in less than two months, Marc was not only able to drop his daily insulin injections, but every last one of his medications. His glucose levels are now completely normal.

Giving Patients A Choice
Doctors stress that patients should be supported in making diabetes management a priorityhowever they choose to do soregardless of whether the aim is remission.
The majority of patients dont achieve remission, but the goal is to keep their blood sugar under good control, says Dr. Gwendolyne Jack, endocrinologist and clinician-educator at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. To achieve this, she says, some patients will continue to need lifelong medication, including insulin. Thats OK. That is not a failure on their part, Jack says.
But the impact of a diagnosis on patientsand the desire many patients have to control blood sugar without medication or insulinshouldnt be ignored, Taylor and others emphasize. Survey results published in Diabetic Medicine in February 2018 show this is the No. 1 question patients want researchers to answer about the disease: Can Type 2 diabetes be cured or reversed, what is the best way to achieve this, and is there a point beyond which the condition cant be reversed?
Taylor acknowledges that many people with the chronic condition see it as something the doctor will deal with patients often get help with controlling blood sugar, but their goal isnt remission. However, at least 40% of people with Type 2 diabetes hate their condition and would go to lengths to get rid of it, he says. They describe the moment of diagnosis as a hammer blow. Many doctors do not understand that.
Testing The Twin Cycle Hypothesis
The study aimed to test and confirm the so-called twin cycle hypothesis, which Prof. Taylor and team put forth more than a decade ago.
The theory proposed that type 2 diabetes results from the accumulation of fat in the liver, which induces insulin resistance and increases blood sugar production.
These effects, in turn, increase plasma insulin levels, precipitating a self-reinforcing cycle in which insulin stimulates fat production.
These increased levels of liver fat cause the lipids to overspill into several tissues, including the pancreas.
Beta-cells, which are responsible for creating insulin, are located in the pancreas. Long-term exposure to saturated fatty acids is harmful to -cells, write the authors.
In the present study, the authors investigated the predictions of the twin cycle hypothesis 2 years into the DiRECT trial.
The researchers wanted to describe the pathophysiologic processes underlying the recurrence of type 2 diabetes in the group that initially achieved remission but then relapsed back to diabetes.
To this end, the researchers quantified intra-organ and abdominal fat using cutting-edge MRI scans at 12 and 24 months. They looked at pancreatic and liver fat, specifically.
The analysis included measurements of glucose, HbA1c, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides. The team also analyzed fatty acids, insulin secretion, and beta-cell function.

I Finally Cured My Diabetes
Hello, my name is Lisa and I was recently diagnosed with diabetes. A condition I was told had no known cure yet. Despite the bad news I still believed in a hopeful, a future where I shall be free of diabetes. I was willing to do just anything to get back to my healthy state. In attempts to understand the disease, I dug deep and found out that the disease is mostly hereditary honestly, this doesnt apply for me since no one in my family has ever had the disease. I spend virtually every second of my free time either trying to understand the root cause of the disease and all the potential treatments. It was after the research that I got a whole new angle of viewing things, something that I never knew before all thanks to my thorough research.
The first thing that I knew was that I was not alone. There were million other people around the globe who were going through the same thing as me. This fact made me feel rejuvenated and more determined to find a cure.
Thousands of people suffering from erratic blood sugar has been using this ground-breaking solution
To help them burn away dangerous fat from their vital organs and bellies
While stabilizing their blood sugar levels naturally and effectively.
And starting today
I achieved these positive results by eating healthy foods recommended specifically for someone with diabetes.
Myth Busting Diabetes Cures
Products claiming to treat or even cure diabetes are everywhere, but do these so-called cures really work? Spoiler alert: the answer is usually no. Treatments for diabetes need to be FDA-approved to ensure they are safe and effective. However, products classified as dietary supplements are not regulated by the FDA. Below we discuss spices, dietary supplements, and other methods claiming to cure diabetes.
Every day, people with diabetes are bombarded with information about so-called cures that take the form of teas, spices, supplements, and more. This information often comes from well-intentioned friends or family members encouraging you to, eat more cinnamon, or drink this tea, to cure your diabetes, or from a quick web search of hundreds of so-called diabetes treatments that are not supported by any medical evidence.
The irony of these cures and treatments is not lost on many people with diabetes while they work constantly to manage their glucose levels with various treatments, devices, diets and exercise routines, the world tells them that they can be cured with a simple spice mixture or a gummy vitamin.
In reality, there is no cure for diabetes. There has been progress in delaying the onset of type 1 diabetes, and people with type 2 diabetes can have it go into remission, but diabetes cannot be cured.

A Terrible Terrible Disease
Dr. Melton had never thought much about diabetes until 1991 when his 6-month-old baby boy, Sam, began shaking, vomiting and panting.
He was so sick, and the pediatrician didnt know what it was, Dr. Melton said. He and his wife Gail OKeefe rushed their baby to Boston Childrens Hospital. Sams urine was brimming with sugar a sign of diabetes.
The disease, which occurs when the bodys immune system destroys the insulin-secreting islet cells of the pancreas, often starts around age 13 or 14. Unlike the more common and milder Type 2 diabetes, Type 1 is quickly lethal unless patients get injections of insulin. No one spontaneously gets better.
Its a terrible, terrible disease, said Dr. Butler at U.C.L.A.
Patients are at risk of going blind diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in this country. It is also the leading cause of kidney failure. People with Type 1 diabetes are at risk of having their legs amputated and of death in the night because their blood sugar plummets during sleep. Diabetes greatly increases their likelihood of having a heart attack or stroke. It weakens the immune system one of Dr. Butlers fully vaccinated diabetes patients recently died from Covid-19.
Added to the burden of the disease is the high cost of insulin, whose price has risen each year.

Diabetes Reversal By Another Name
The concept of Type 2 diabetes remission, which is getting increasing attention from researchers and doctors, also goes by other names, including diabetes reversal, resolution, and even cure. But a consensus of experts led by the ADA last year agreed on the term remission as being most accurate.
The reason we use the word remission is because if someone were to think that they were cured or reversed, the challenge is they may then not feel like they need to have anything checked, says Dr. Robert Gabbay, ADAs chief science and medical officer.
In simplest terms, the expert panel defined Type 2 diabetes remission as having a blood-sugar level below the established threshold for a diabetes diagnosis for at least three months without taking diabetes medication. That would be below, for example, 6.5% A1c, for the blood test thats used to get a three-month average of blood sugar.
But a lot still remains unclearlike how long remission generally lasts, because it varies. And experts stress that continued follow-up with health care providersnot only to monitor blood glucose but also to check for diabetes complicationsis important because the impact of diabetes remission on things like heart health and death rate isnt yet well understood.

The Cause Of Diabetes
Diabetes is an illness related to elevated blood sugar levels. When you stop releasing and responding to normal amounts of insulin after eating foods with carbohydrates, sugar and fats, you have diabetes. Insulin, a hormone thats broken down and transported to cells to be used as energy, is released by the pancreas to help with the storage of sugar and fats. But people with diabetes dont respond to insulin properly, which causes high blood sugar levels and diabetes symptoms.
Its important to note that theres a difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Heres an explanation of the two types of diabetes and what causes these conditions:
Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is commonly called juvenile diabetes because it tends to develop at a younger age, typically before a person turns 20 years old. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas.
The damage to the pancreatic cells leads to a reduced ability or complete inability to create insulin. Some of the common causes that trigger this autoimmune response may include a virus, genetically modified organisms, heavy metals, or foods like wheat, cows milk and soy.
The reason foods like wheat and cows milk have been linked to diabetes is because they contain the proteins gluten and A1 casein. These proteins can cause leaky gut, which in turn causes systemic inflammation throughout the body and over time can lead to autoimmune disease.

Three Key Factors In Dental Diseases That Help Us Understand Type 2 Diabetes
The mouth-body connection gives some more perspective on how to influence type 2 diabetes. These include vitamin D, sleep, and the gut microbiome.
First, the health of your gut is critical to your overall health. This is because your gut is home of trillions of microbes called the gut microbiome. These microbes work in symbiotic and antagonistic relationships within your body. A 2017 study using multiple therapies to manipulate the gut microbiome composition, found they could impact the individuals health more rapidly. This study also found manipulating the gut microbiome as an effective way to avoid insulin resistance and therefore prevent diabetes.
The plot thickens.
Through choosing which microbes to favor through diet, probiotics, and more it appears possible support glycemic control and improves treatments for people who are diabetic.
Second, researchers have found vitamin D plays a functional role in maintaining glucose tolerance through improving insulin sensitivity and modulating secretion. One study found vitamin D supplementation may reduce insulin resistance.
I believe vitamin D has health roles all over the body, I wrote a four-part series on it. Make sure youre getting enough sunshine or supplementing.
A Success Story: How I Got Off Insulin And Cured My Diabetes
Here’s a guest post on how someone got off insulin and cure diabetes in about 2 months after nine years on prescription drugs! And if only she’d known about this “blood sugar supplement” she could have prevented the whole problem before it ever started! June was a 56-year-old with diabetes. She had been on insulin and oral prescription medications for nine years when she agreed to test a natural solution. Within six weeks, she stopped not only her insulin but another prescription drug as well.
In just six weeks an alternative doctor solved a problem that mainstream medicine couldn’t handle in nine years and for thousands of dollars. The fact is that it costs the typical diabetic around $10,000 a year for treatment. Conventional medicine soaked this woman for maybe $90,000 to treat a medical problem that plant remedies cured in no time at all! A standard diabetes test showed June went from severely diabetic to healthy in the course of the treatment. But this diabetes breakthrough almost didn’t happen. Believe it or not, Jon Barron, the acclaimed researcher who found this remedy, wanted nothing to do with creating a diabetes treatment. He thought it would be a mistake to use herbs and nutrients to manage the symptoms of diabetes rather than addressing the root cause, mainly the way we eat.
Jon decided it was… seven herbs tackle diabetes seven different ways.
