When you need something quick in between meals, or before a workout, its a convenient choice to reach for an energy bar. When you have diabetes, you dont want to reach for products that are high in glycemic level, and raise your blood sugar.
There are products on the market that will foot the bill for low glycemic levels and natural sugars. Lets look at some of the best ones out on the market for you when you have diabetes.

How To Store Homemade Granola Bars
We almost always include some sort of energy bite or bar recipe when were prepping meals for the week. Theyre easy, on-the-go fuel that the whole family will eat!
To make them ahead, simply prepare the recipe as written. Once the bars have been cooled and cut, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 10 days. But our guess is they wont last that long!

This reading was about an hour after I finished eating this glucose bomb. Actually, I ate TWO glucose bombs! Each package contains two granola bars, see.

So two granola bars bring a collective 27.2g of carbs, PLUS 12.7g of sugar. Thats INSANE!
Granted, its not as bad as an actual Snickers bar, but DAYUMMMMMM. Its way more than I was expecting. FML.
After some googling, it looks like Nature Valley no longer sells this Oats and Berries variety of granola bar. But does that mean you can eat other kinds of Nature Valley granola? I seriously doubt it.
If you have diabetes, dont eat this crap! Really. If youre going to blow up your blood sugar by 100 mg/dL, make it worth your while. Go eat a cheeseburger or something, not f**king granola.
Quest And Quest Hero Bars
This is a great choice that wont spike your blood sugars, and you can find a flavor for every palate. The consistency is chewy and delicious, and it packs in a ton of protein with bars averaging around 20 grams of protein and 5 grams net carbs or less. Thanks to our community, I also learned about Quest Hero bars, which is a new take on the old favorite, and instead of a chewy bite, it is packed with a tasty crunch. Its around the same macros as the original, so you cant go wrong either way.

Are Nature Valley Bars Good For Weight Loss
Nature Valley bars are not ideal for weight loss, as they are relatively high in calories. They contain high-calorie ingredients like sugar and canola oil, often with nuts, dried fruit, or chocolate. To lose weight with Nature Valley bars, youd likely need to cut portion sizes or count calories.
Remember: The most important thing for weight loss is calorie balance. And if you want to make weight loss easier, the best things to eat are foods with a low calorie density.
Low-calorie-density foods are typically high infiber and water. They fill up your stomach and help you feel full on fewer calories.
Unfortunately, most Nature Valley Bars dont have much fiber or water. The Crunchy Granola Bars only have 2 grams of fiber per serving. Thats only half of the fiber in a half cup of rolled oats.
The fact is that Nature Valley Bars are made primarily of calorically dense ingredients. These include sugar and other sweeteners, canola oil, and often peanut butter, dried fruit, or chocolate.
There are around 200 calories in each two-bar Crunchy Granola bar pack. This is pretty standard for granola bars, but its high when compared to whole plant foods. For the same amount of calories, you could have roughly 2 medium-sized bananas.
You can obviously still lose weight while eating Nature Valley bars. There is nothing inherently fattening about them. They will not automatically make you fat. That said, theyre not helping you lose weight.
Relevant Points To Consider When Consuming Protein Bars:
- Do not eat protein bars as a solution to hypoglycemia , especially with symptoms . To raise your blood sugar, you should eat a fast-acting carbohydrate, such as ½ cup juice, 1 cup milk, or glucose tabs.
- Energy bars are not protein bars. You will not get the large amounts of protein you are looking for in energy bars. Energy bars have a generally high amount of carbohydrates to provide a boost of energy. They are not as filling as a protein bar.
- Avoid overconsuming protein bars. Protein bars are a good option if you will miss a meal, but not recommended as a continuing meal replacement in a well-balanced diet.
- Always check the vitamin and mineral content.
- Gluten-free, nut-free, and vegan options are labeled as such.
- Consider checking your blood sugar two hours after the first bite of eating a protein bar to see how it affects you.

Nature Valley Protein Bars
Protein bars are considered nutritional supplements that are produced in different flavors. Nature Valley chewy protein bars are high in protein and contain less sugar.

If we look at the nutrition facts of them, we will find that the calorie number is acceptable and they provide you with 10 grams of protein, which is about 20% of the daily needed protein. Also, they are a good source of fiber. They are perfect for post-exercise.
In addition, they are gluten-free. They contain 190 calories, 12 grams of fats, and 6 grams of sugar.

Can Diabetics Eat Snickers
Technically, if youre T1 and counting carbs you can eat anything you want to eat, sugar or no sugar. You just take the correct amount of insulin for the amount of carbohydrate. Obviously its not healthy to eat loads of sugary foods but having diabetes doesnt mean you CANT eat them! Moderation is the key!

Peanut Butter Granola Bars Are Freezer
We also like to stock our freezers with homemade granola bars and bites so that we always have something on backup during those weeks when a meal prep doesnt happen.
To freeze homemade granola bars:
- Prepare the recipe as directed
- Once the bars have been cooled and cut, transfer them to an airtight, freezer-friendly container or bag, separating each layer with parchment paper.
- Label freezer bag with the date, and store for up to 3 months in the freezer.
- When ready to enjoy, let thaw on the counter or pop in the microwave for a minute or two until warm.
Natural Valley Protein Bar
Once again, I am so glad I reached out for the communitys help on this because I had completely forgotten about this bar. I used to enjoy this years ago and will be sure to add them back on my grocery list since they only contain around 7 grams net carbs and 10 grams of protein and they also happen to be absolutely delicious.

Better Than Coffee Energy Bars
Caffeine in moderation and at least 70 percent cacao chocolate are good for you. They both provide powerful antioxidants. The Better than Coffee Energy Bar comes in at just 110 calories. It provides an ample 5 grams of protein, and once you consider the fiber in this energy bar, it provides just 8 grams of net carbohydrates.
Good for diabetes?
The coconut in it provides some good fats. One thing to watch out for is the caffeine content. It contains 100 mg of caffeine, so you should start with only one-half of a portion if you are sensitive to caffeine to see how it may affect you.
The Better than Coffee Energy Bar contains two South American plants, maca and guarana. The guarana plant is from Portugal, and its similar to a maple. Seeds from the guarana plant with caffeine inside the seeds. As a dietary supplement, the seeds are high in caffeine and serve as a stimulant.
The Maca plant comes from the mountains of Peru, and the root is used as an herb for medicinal purposes. It is supposedly good for sexual function, increasing sperm count and for menopausal symptoms, although there isnt any research to support this.
When starting to eat bars that contain dietary supplements and herbs, always consult with your healthcare provider first to ensure that any herbal ingredients will not interact with your other medications or cause you health concerns. Speaking with your pharmacist is helpful to reduce interactions with your medication with herbal and dietary supplements.
Paleo Thin Energy Bars
While these munchies have a peanut-buttery taste, they dont contain nuts.
Good for diabetes?
They use sunflower seed powder, egg whites for protein and monk fruit for natural sweetness. The manufacturers claim to use organic prebiotic fiber to curb cravings and hold you over until the next meal. They also claim that it doesnt make you feel bloated, as fiber sometimes does. At 11 grams of fat, but only 1 gram of saturated fat, 23 grams of total carbohydrates and a large amount of fiber at 18 grams, this bar comes in at just 5 net carbohydrates.
Will I be able to stay in ketosis with this energy bar?
This product may be OK for keto diets where maintenance of weight is desired, and carbohydrates are not reduced quite so strictly.

Munk Pack Keto Granola Bar And Keto Fruit & Nut Bars
I had never heard of these bars until I reached out to the community for their suggestions. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor and nutritional information on this product. Munk Pack bars are plant-based and gluten-free and come in a wide variety of flavors. Here Are The Ingredients For One Of Their Crunchy Bars:
