What To Look For When Choosing An App To Manage Diabetes

If youre newly diagnosed, a CDCES can help you prioritize which areas to focus on and can recommend a simple app for just that purpose, says Hughes. They have access to a website known as Danatech that includes rigorous reviews of diabetes apps, and they can use this resource to help you identify useful options for your individual health.

Youll also want to consider your overall comfort level with technology. Many apps are rich with features, but for some people, this can feel overwhelming. On the other hand, if youre the kind of person who loves data and technology, one of the more comprehensive apps might be an ideal way for you to tackle diabetes management.

Many diabetes devices, from glucose meters to continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps, come with an integrated app that syncs the device to your phone. These will most likely work well with your devices, and your diabetes educator can show you how they work.

Still, these choices are just the beginning, and there are lots of other options to explore. Weve listed our top picks for several types of apps, focusing on those that have numerous and consistent good reviews from users and have been updated recently. Many offer similar features, so you may want to download a few and see which is easiest for you to use.

Mysugr: Blood Sugar Tracker

Its also possible to see more or fewer options. Just tap on the Customize Cells option, and tap on the eye to make them visible. To do this, tap on the blue circle, and the option will be at the bottom.

There are some options that you will need to go Pro to use. For example, you can choose an emoji-type option that will express how you are feeling at the time. You will also need to upgrade to use the reminder feature as well.

The Guardian Connect System

Diabetes IQ for iPhone and Android

The Guardian Connect System is a CGM device that can send early warnings of potential high glucose levels to a person before they occur. The company reportedly works with over 600 insurance companies to help people get the system at a lower price.

The Guardian Connect System features:

  • a rechargeable transmitter that does not need replacing
  • a smartphone app for Android and iOS devices
  • a free 30-day trial

FDA approval in 2018.

It measures the glucose in the interstitial fluids every 5 minutes before sending information to the linked app. The sensors work for up to 90 days, so a person needs to replace them every 3 months.

However, the device requires individuals to visit their doctors office for insertion, so it may not be the best option for those unable to leave their house or see their doctor in person.

Additionally, the Eversense CGM can be sensitive to direct sunlight. This may affect the insertion site, often in the upper arm.

Paid Ads Removal Continued Ads Placement

I am writing this review to protest the ads that have cropped on my screen when using this app to log my glucose readings. I would have rated this app with **** stars but I cant get convinced to do so. When I downloaded this app, I PAID $ to have all ads removed. Why are you guys so sneaky at the way you push your ads to customers who have paid for ads to be removed? Why is my scream getting so distorted with your ads? Isnt it unfair that you would not ask me for consent to place ads on my screen. We are diabetic patients who do not want to feel more stressed out by sifting through your ads just so we can use the app for what it was intended to do. I urge you to please, remove those ads from my scream, and hope that you take my complain serious. I might have to ask for a percentage of $ you get for placing your ads on my screen when you know ver well that, I paid to have them removed. Frustrated app user.

Smartphone Test Could Help You Track Glucose Without The Pain

A UK-based company has come up with an app which it claims will allow users to test their blood sugar level without needing even a smear of blood.

Colin has been a computer journalist for some 30 years having started in the business the same year that the IBM PC was launched, although the first piece he wrote was about computer audit. He was at one time editor of Computing magazine in London and prior to that held a number of editing jobs, including time spent at the late DEC Computing and was also the London editor for Byte magazine.

Smartphone users may soon be able to check their blood glucose level without having to take a blood sample, using a new app for iOS and Android.

Checking your blood sugar level usually needs at least a drop of blood for testing. This new method could mean users don’t have to give any blood at all.

Wood: “This is for everybody in the street who is potentially at risk of developing diabetes or alternatively has a focus on weight management or diet.”

The app works when the user places one fingertip over the camera lens of their smartphone.

A series of close-up images are taken, and show information about the user’s blood flow. These are sent to the cloud for analysis and give feedback on various vital signs from heart rate, temperature, and blood pressure, to respiration rate and blood oxygen saturation, said Epic Health, the company behind the app.

Apps For Mental Health

Gmate SMART Blood Glucose Monitoring System – Apple Iphone & Android Diabetic Testing

You may have heard of the mind-body connection, which refers to how your emotions, thoughts, and attitudes can affect your physical health. For people with diabetes specifically, the American Diabetes Association notes that blood glucose levels are raised through feelings of stress, and stabilized when in a more relaxed state.

The daily effort required in managing a chronic condition like diabetes can also lead to feelings of stress or anxiety over perfect glucose control, as well as depression. With fluctuating and at times unpredictable blood glucose readings, try to strive for progress over perfection.

Consider utilizing the following apps to focus on improving mindfulness and reducing anxiety and stress.

Diabetes App: Smartphone Scan Set To Replace Finger

DIABETICS needing to check their blood glucose levels can now use a “game-changing” mobile phone app, which does away with the routine finger-prick test.

When downloaded onto a compatible smartphone, users of the FreeStyle LibreLink app can simply wave their phone over a sensor on their arm to get a real-time glucose level reading.

The reading provides eight hours’ worth of blood sugar levels, giving users the opportunity to monitor and adjust their intake of food or insulin.

Previously, diabetics who used the FreeStyle Libre system could only use the separate FreeStyle Libre reader – a $95 handheld device that scans the linked sensor to get the results.

Australia is the first country outside Europe where the app, launched in early June, is available.

Port Melbourne man Simon Savage said being able to check his blood glucose levels with his phone was a “complete game-changer”.

“As an avid long-distance kite surfer, it means I can now check my blood glucose levels with my waterproof phone,” he said.

“Pairing a phone and reader together will also mean I have a backup if I lose or misplace either. And consistently regular uploads of data to my profile will mean that I check my weekly trends more easily and regularly.”

Welcoming the technology, Diabetes Australia’s Renza Scibilia, who has type 1 diabetes, said the system is an easy and convenient.

“These people could really benefit from FreeStyle Libre.”
