For many years of glucose testing I did not know of this application, and I was using Aviva and later Aviva Plus meters. In the abrupt change to the Guide Me system, I was referred to MySugr. As if the name were not cute enough, MySugrs graphics were clearly not aimed for my age bracketI found the entire application repellent. I went back to Apples App Store: and I feel that Connect is exactly what I was hoping to find. The learning curve may be a little steeper, and fortunately I do not require the more specialized and complex features which Connect has available, but clearly the application has been built by very intelligent people over a long period of time. Even if you need specific assistance, help is only a phone call away. I have always admired Roches service, support and accuracy, and I think this software is a very good ambassador for the company. Very well done!

Many Great Features But Unreliable App

I really like all the features available in the app. However, 2 big problems:1.) App crashes frequently. The app all of the sudden disappears while using it and requires a restart of the app. Mostly it crashes right after I touch the screen to select anything in the app.2.) The Bluetooth connection requires the app to be open before it can transmit any data to the app. Sometimes even when the app is open, it will not transmit. I have had to remove the meter from IOS Bluetooth, remove the paired device from the app, and then re-pair the meter to both IOS and to the ACCU-CHEK App. And I have 1 request for future updates- it would be so great if this app was able to send my data directly to a message in the Epic MyChart software at the Doctors office. I know this would probably require some work with the Epic people as well as my providers developers.I have a monthly phone call with the Providence Clinical Pharmacist to review my diabetic meds and my glucose readings. This requires me to send my numbers and data over to the Pharmacist before our phone call. Since I can only attach a picture to MyChart messages, I need to take screenshots of the Trend Table View in the ACCU-CHEK app. Thank you

Software Bug Led To Fda Recall Of Accu

We were unable to process your request. Please try again later. If you continue to have this issue please contact .

The FDA recently announced a recall of Roche Diabetes Care Inc.s Accu-Chek Connect Diabetes Management App due to a software bug in the Bolus Advisor feature, according to a press release.

The recall warns that certain iOS and Android App versions contain the program bug: When the OS region of the phone setting is changed, the unit of measure may also unexpectedly change, causing users to incorrectly enter numerical values for carbohydrate used for bolus advice and the app to not transfer the blood glucose result.

Users of the app are advised to clear all data from the Accu-Chek blood glucose meter before pairing with the Accu-Chek Connect app for the first time.

Full directions for clearing data from the Accu-Chek blood glucose meter can be found here.

The food tracking app from FatSecret is the one that Kimberlain uses most often with her patients. I dont recommend the name, but the capability is why I use it, she says. It enables you to track your food , exercise, and weight, and share that info with your healthcare provider with a link via email. I can make comments and suggestions based on what is entered, Kimberlain says. The app also includes a journal feature so you can keep tabs on your progress, as well as a recipe library so you can find plenty of healthy meal ideas.

To Better Manage Diabetes Its Key To Make Technology Work For You

As you explore diabetes apps, keep in mind that your goal is to find the technology solution that will be a good fit for you, Ilkowitz emphasizes. It should help make your life easier, not more complicated. Find apps that are easy to use, sync seamlessly with your devices, and give you useful information.

Also, know that while apps can be incredibly valuable tools, they cant and shouldnt try to replace individualized medical advice. Its still not a person. Its still not the team, says Ilkowitz. She advises walking through your apps with your certified diabetes educator to be sure they are appropriate tools for you and that youre using them correctly.

Fda Issues Warning For Roches Accu

FDA issues warning for Roches Accu-Chek diabetes management app The FDA today issued a Class 2 device recall for Roche s Accu-Chek connected diabetes management app. The company first notified the regulatory agency of the software bug in June last year. Roche reported that certain iOS and Andriod versions of the app had a program error in the Bolus Advisor feature a calculator that helps the user determine insulin doses based on data from a glucose meter. The bug in the software can change the unit of measurement within the app unexpectedly, according to Roche. The company told its Accu-Chek users in June last year to update the app to version 2.1.1 and clear the data collected from the Accu-check blood glucose meter before pairing with the updated app for the first time. Roche added that after updating its diabetes management app, people using the Bolus Advisor feature should carefully monitor their active insulin and insulin bolus amounts for at least eight hours. There are more than 67,000 people using version 2.1.0 of Roches Accu-Chek app, according to the company.Continue reading > >

What To Look For When Choosing An App To Manage Diabetes

Accu-Chek® Connect Online

If youre newly diagnosed, a CDCES can help you prioritize which areas to focus on and can recommend a simple app for just that purpose, says Hughes. They have access to a website known as Danatech that includes rigorous reviews of diabetes apps, and they can use this resource to help you identify useful options for your individual health.

Youll also want to consider your overall comfort level with technology. Many apps are rich with features, but for some people, this can feel overwhelming. On the other hand, if youre the kind of person who loves data and technology, one of the more comprehensive apps might be an ideal way for you to tackle diabetes management.

Many diabetes devices, from glucose meters to continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps, come with an integrated app that syncs the device to your phone. These will most likely work well with your devices, and your diabetes educator can show you how they work.

Still, these choices are just the beginning, and there are lots of other options to explore. Weve listed our top picks for several types of apps, focusing on those that have numerous and consistent good reviews from users and have been updated recently. Many offer similar features, so you may want to download a few and see which is easiest for you to use.

Figwee takes the guesswork out of logging your meals by allowing you to view photos of incremental portion sizes. This way, you can log your food more accurately. Just search for the food you want to log, pick the photo that matches what you ate, and move the slider on the photo up or down to adjust the portion until you see the amount that you ate. Bigger Blood Drop Area

Theres a larger area for your drop of blood to go on the strip two to four times larger than the other brand name strips, according to the company. Also, each Accu-Chek Guide strip has a broad bright yellow edge where you can deposit your blood.

The strips also show blood drop icons to direct people where to apply their blood. This is very helpful, given that some test strips have varying designs with the blood going directly on the top while others collect samples on the edge.

The Accu-Chek Guide offers onboard pattern detection that helps people better recognize high and low blood sugar trends. This information is shown on both the meter and in the mobile app as the percentage of low and high levels in the morning, midday, evening, and overnight.

It also provides an insulin dosing calculator within the app, allowing you to determine how much insulin you might need based on the current reading and carb count information that you enter.

Having this bolus wizard feature built right into the mobile app-connected meter may be an excellent addition for anyone not using an insulin pump.

Customer Reviews And Brand Reputation

In general, the Accu-Chek Guide receives high marks from people whove used this product. On Amazon, it receives 4.6 out of 5 stars.

The spill-resistant vial of test strips is an oft-mentioned highlight for many people, who describe not having to worry about spilling and losing their test strips especially if its late at night, in a darkened room, or in a cramped space while checking their blood sugar.

Some common concerns mentioned are that the strips may produce an error if they arent inserted correctly or that the meter doesnt connect via Bluetooth as well as theyd hoped.

Using the Accu-Chek Guide, I had great experiences using this product for fingersticks. I find the novel test strip container a creative solution, showing the company took to heart a big issue that many people with diabetes have with test strips. The additional lighting options and easy-to-read display made this meter a preferred choice for use at night or anytime its dark.

The Accu-Chek Guide is just one of the many meters available. Several other name brands exist, including a variety of generic meters that you can find at drugstores and pharmacies.
