Overall Structure Modulation Of Gut Microbiota Among Different Groups

The V4 region of bacterial 16S rRNA gene commonly used in the study of gut microbiota was analyzed by MiSeq platform to examine the impact of AODCEA on gut microbiota composition. After removing unqualified sequences, a total of 975,468 high quality sequences were obtained from 24 fecal samples. And 1152 operational taxonomic units were used for subsequent analysis. The -diversity index of gut microbiota, including Shannon index, Simpson index, and rarefaction curve, were evaluated . As shown in Figure 2A and B, the Shannon index and Simpson index in the T2DM group is increased significantly compared with the NCG and the AODCEA group. The same trend was observed for OUTs, the number of OUTs in the T2DM group was also higher than that in either the AODCEA group or NCG . These results means that the -diversity of intestinal flora existing in T2DM increased, and AODCEA can change this tendency. It should be pointed out that the rarefaction curve analysis has reached a stable value in current sequencing, as shown in Figure 2C, meaning that the sequencing depth has covered the rare new phenotypes and species as much as possible. Besides, an obvious clustering for each group was showed by principal-coordinate analysis based on Bray-Curtis distance .

Are There Any Risks

A 2017 review of studies relating to the use of acupuncture for diabetes treatment found that there appear to be no side effects. As a result, there appears to be little risk in adding acupuncture to your treatment.

However, there is still no cure for diabetes. Acupuncture may bolster the lifestyle changes you make to manage your diabetes, but it wont cure it. Furthermore, you must continue with insulin therapy if your doctor prescribes it.

On a general level, acupuncture can cause bruising and minor bleeding. Avoid it if you have a bleeding condition, such as hemophilia. Also, only visit licensed practitioners, and ensure all needles are sterilized before use and removed after the treatment.

The exact mechanisms of acupuncture arent fully understood, but scientific research has proven that acupuncture triggers the bodys regulatory systems to release chemicals that reduce pain and inflammation, stimulate the secretion of neurohormones and neurotransmitters to help the body restore homeostasis. The blood sugar lowering effects of acupuncture are believed to be due to the down-regulation of corstisol, a stress hormone that encourages the liver to create glucose, and by decreasing free-fatty acid concentration in the blood, which is believed to increase insulin sensitivity.

A 2016 literature review of human and animal studies in the journal, Acupuncture in Medicine looked into whether acupuncture:

The blocked randomization sequence will be computer-generated by an independent statistician, who will not be involved in implementation and statistical analysis of the trial. The allocation will be placed inside sequentially numbered sealed opaque envelopes which will be opened only after enrollment. To further explore the key phenotypes of AODCEAs efficacy, we used multiple comparative analyses to identify specific changes in intestinal microbiota . A total of 5 bacteria showed significant changes . Blautia and Lactobacillus were significantly reduced in the T2DM group compared with NCG. Interestingly, similar levels of these two bacteria in the NC group were observed in AODCEA group . The other bacteria, including Alistipes, Helicobacter, and Prevotella increased significantly in the T2DM group, while they decreased significantly in the AODCEA group .
