Cauliflower Pizza Crust (Gluten

It only takes a few simple steps to make delicious cauliflower pizza crust. Youll cook the cauliflower rice, combine the dough ingredients, shape into a crust, and bake. Once the crust is almost done, add the toppings and place back in the oven to finish!

Here are the detailed step-by-step instructions:

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375 F .

Step 2: To make cauliflower rice from scratch, cut a large head of cauliflower into smaller florets. Grate these florets using a box grater with medium-sized holes or use a grater attachment on your food processor. Alternatively, you can buy pre-riced cauliflower.

Step 3: Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the riced cauliflower. Mix and cook for 5 minutes until the rice is soft.

Step 4: Drain the cauliflower rice with a fine mesh strainer or a kitchen towel. Once most of the water has drained, set the rice aside to cool for 5 minutes.

Step 5: While the cauliflower rice is cooling, mix the flaxseed meal and water and form it into a ball. Set aside.

Step 6: Wrap the cooled cauliflower rice in the dish towel and ring out as much water as you can. You want to remove as much moisture as possible.

Step 7: Add the cauliflower rice, prepared flaxseed ball, almond flour, oregano, onion powder, sea salt, and chopped basil leaves to a large mixing bowl.

Step 8: Use your hands to combine the ingredients thoroughly.

Step 10: Bake the crust for 30 minutes, then remove from the oven.

The Truth About Cauliflower Pizza

Cauliflower is known to have a host of health benefits, but sadly, pizza-making brands are using this to their advantage.

Okay, lets think about it for a second. If you check the ingredients listed on the cauliflower crust pizza package, cauliflower is usually not the only ingredient. For the most part, the crust is just the normal flour, with cauliflower added to it.

And quite often, egg and cheese are thrown into the mix as a binder, which raises cholesterol and saturated fats levels. Not just that. When it comes to cooking it, the toppings used on the crust also play a huge role in determining how healthy the pizza will be.

If, for instance, the crust has loads of extra cheese, pepperoni, sausage, or buffalo chicken toppings, you will still end up with a high-fat, high-calorie pie.

Now, because of this dressing, your cauliflower pizza will not be any different from the regular pizza, and eating it often will likely not help you attain your weight loss or fitness goals.

So as much as cauliflower is a healthy veggie, the healthiness of a cauliflower pizza will depend on the ingredients added to it.

Homemade cauliflower pizza crust can be a healthier alternative, though. You can easily make a wholesome pizza from fresh cauliflower, natural herbs, and almonds.

Why I Love Outer Aisle Cauliflower Products

What I like about the Outer Aisle products is that they are made with 63% fresh cauliflower, whole cage-free eggs, and Parmesan cheese. Its as close as it comes to the way I would make pizza crust myself if I wanted to spend the time.

The cauliflower base means that the blood sugar impact is minimal, and the use of eggs and parmesan as binding agents means that the protein amount is higher than the fats.

That is something I appreciate a lot, as high-fat foods mean that theblood sugar impact is slowed down but that the blood sugar increase can haunt you for hours after youve finished your meal.

Another important thing about these products is that they dont actually taste like cauliflower. Dont get me wrong, I like cauliflower, but I dont want my pizza to taste like a head of cauliflower.

How Outer Aisle Impacts Christels Blood Sugar:

Since these products have so few carbs, you might not need any insulin at all. However, I am fairly sensitive to anything I eat so I do need to inject insulin even for a small amount of carbohydrates. I also load my pizzas high, so I have to take insulin for the sauce and cheese as well. But these products are so gentle on my blood sugars! Let me share my blood sugar experiment from the last time I enjoyed one of the Outer Aisle Pizza crusts.

I was going to one of my girlfriends house, and asked her if she wanted me to bring sushi or cauliflower pizza crusts and toppings. She opted for the pizzawhich tells you how good this stuff is.

Since I was at her house, and I guess slightly distracted with making the pizzas and catching up, I forgot to pre-bolus and just took my insulin shot right before we sat down to eat. We ate at 8 PM and as you can see from the graph below, there was no blood sugar spike after I ate. And that was even without a pre-bolus!

I use MyFitnessPal to track my food and calculate my carb, protein, and fat intake. I bolus not just for the carbs but for protein as well. The pizza had 10 grams of carbs and 27 grams of protein, so I took 1 unit of rapid-acting insulin for the carbs and 0.5 units for the protein and that clearly worked out perfectly.

Do I Need A Pizza Stone To Make Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Cauliflower Pizza Crust Diabetes

There is no need to use a pizza stone when making cauliflower crust. Just use a metal sheet tray to bake the crust on. That being said, if you have a pizza stone, use it to bake the crust and the pizza once it has the toppings. It may make the crust a bit more crispy, but there is no need to buy one just for this recipe.

Using Frozen Cauliflower For Pizza Crust

Review of Blaze Keto crust pizza and cauliflower crust pizza from a Type 1 Diabetic.

Ive been making this cauliflower pizza crust for years, and there are a number of ways you can make it, but the easiest method is by starting with frozen cauliflower.

I buy 1-pound bags of frozen cauliflower, so that I dont have to do any chopping, and then I thaw them in the fridge the night before I want to make my pizza.

Using frozen cauliflower allows you to skip the pre-cooking of the cauliflower, and ultimately saves you time, but Ive also included directions for starting with fresh cauliflower in the recipe below if youd prefer to do that.

You must thaw and squeeze out the liquid from the cauliflower to get a non-soggy crust.

Update: Many stores are also now carrying frozen pre-riced cauliflower, which will save you even more time, since you wont have to break out the food processor, either. Ive made this crust using two 12-ounce or two 16-ounce bags of frozen cauliflower, so know that this recipe is relatively flexible with the cauliflower amount.

Ditch The Cauliflower Crust: You Might As Well Just Eat Bread

Cauliflower Pizza Crust Recipe â Recipes for Diabetes ...

Cauliflower crust, part of the aftermath of the vegetable food craze that brought us zoodles and spaghetti squash, has made an explosive entrance into the food world, enabling pizza consumption for gluten-free and low-carb dieters alike.

However, there seems to be a horrible misconception surrounding whether or not cauliflower crust is actually any better for you than plain, old, fluffy, delicious bread.

Spoiler alert: Its not.

Okay, in a few isolated cases it is. For instance, if you cook the cauliflower crust yourself your veggie crust could be the better call.

But as far as most crusts are concerned, the cauliflower version of any pizza crust is probably worse for you than the glutinous alternative.

Most cauliflower crusts, especially those mass produced and marketed to the Lean Cuisine-loving demographic, are covertly loaded with:

  • Egg.
  • More cheese .
  • Oil.
  • Calorie-dense, gluten-free flour.

It makes sense. The crust provides half the flavor of pizza! Faced with the conundrum of howon Earth to make cauliflower into a reasonable substitute for the ultimately-satisfying bread crust, companies realized theyd need to add more than just vegetables to the mix before people would buy it. So they added flavorful, gluten-free ingredients ingredients that also happen to be highly caloric, dense with fats, and heavy with starches.

Are those ingredients healthier for you than bread? Lets do a little side-by-side dinner comparison.
