T: Slim 3ml Cartridge: Has Anyone Disassembled One

Tandem T:Lock t:slim Insulin Pump 3mL Cartridge

before I get out the Dremel, because this inquiring mind would like to know, has any of the comunity disassembled the t:slim 3ml cartridge & have photos?

I have, but didnt take pictures. This inquiring mind also resorted to a Dremel.

Dont waste your time. There is absolutely nothing to see. Its just a plastic bag thatconnects to the little dosing chamber you can already see at the top of the cartridge.

Its kind of cool. The pump valve is in there. And the reservoir is a plastic bag.I saw a diagram of it in some of the literature but I cant remember where I saw that.If you prime with the cartridge out u can see how the motor just goes up and down and the actual valve is in the cartridge. They just need a window.

Someone did open one up and posted pics of it about 12 months ago on this forum. Not sure what one would search for. I had threatened to take a hammer to one and he preempted me.

While this is not an actual cut-open cartridge, posted a YouTube video that schematically shows the shuttle that is, I think in each cartridge that is driven back and forth by the pump:

Emergency Tslim Pump Supplies

I did not know that reusing t-slim cartridges can work.

My reason was to stretch my small supply of luer-lock cartridges because I detest the infusion sets that Tandem supplies with their proprietary t:lock connection.

I understand that Tandem needed to switch to a proprietary connection to capture enough profits from pump supplies to survive while under severe threat of business failure during Medtronics attack via the UnitedHealthcare exclusionary deal. But Tandem is financially healthy now, and to me it now seems that their continued statement of patient choice matters is clearly hypocritical as they continue to provide an extremely narrow selection of infusion sets over which they maintain proprietary control so as to capture all the sales for themselves.

several times I have refilled a cartridge that was half full when the infusion set pulled out or started leaking.

Why? I would always just disconnect, insert a new infusion set, and reconnect. But then, I always filled cartridges with 300u and changed them independently from infusion set changes.

Its interesting to hear that you got cartridges bursting. Maybe it was different for me because I started with an empty 300u cartridge and filled it with 300u, so there never was a significant overpressure situation. I dont know what would have happened if I had a cartridge with 150u in it and I tried to add 160u.

I had no idea that there was a pump built into the cartridge.
